THE 'Mini-Police' from Somerset Bridge Primary School in Bridgwater were given the chance to find out about the work of the British Transport Police this week.
The pupils travelled up on the train to Bristol Temple Meads where BTP officers talked to them about how they look after the rail network, and strive to get everyone home safely, securely and on time.
Mini Police groups comprise of children age between nine and 11 years who, under the guidance of their Neighbourhood Policing Team, take part in activities which build confidence and positive relationships with local police, while helping out in their school and wider communities.
During the visit 20 children, dressed in replica police uniform were treated to a talk by PC Neil Spring and Sgt James Lynch along with a tour of Bristol Temple Meads station.
The children were fascinated by the number of route miles the BTP cover and were excited by the opportunity to see up close equipment such as radios, truncheons and even tasers - and learn about how and when they are used.
The visit showcased some the wide range of career opportunities in both the rail industry and police service and inspired the children to consider these options in the future.
