THE result may not have gone to plan... but that didn't stop plenty of England supporters enjoying the World Cup final at Taunton Rugby Club on Saturday morning.

It was an early start, with kick-off at 9am, and expectant fans filed through the doors from 8.15am hoping to see England lift their second World Cup trophy.

They were second best throughout, however, as South Africa deservedly claimed a third World Cup triumph of their own.

The Springboks won 32-12 to back up the victories they had recorded in 1995 and 2007, while England were left to rue a performance that fell a long way short of their semi-final win over New Zealand the previous week.

The result backed up Taunton Titans head coach Tony Yapp's pre-tournament prediction that South Africa would win the tournament - Yapp was the only figure to back the Boks from those we asked (see the full predictions here).
