A BRIDGWATER-born author and entertainer has received the royal seal of approval.

Talented Ade Bowen turned his hand to writing a children’s fairytale, and after sending a copy of the book to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, was delighted to received a letter from Kensington Palace thanking him.

Mr Bowen said: “I am thrilled the book has reached the royal family.

“I really like the ideas that real princes and princesses have read my story. It makes it even more magical.”

Ade grew up on the Sydenham Estate and went to St Johns and St Francis Junior School and later, Bridgwater College Academy, then called Sydenham Community School.

He has been invited back to his primary school as a special guest to officially open the new school library.

“Many of of my old school friends have children at the school now, including my cousin’s son, so it was an honour to be invited back to the place that first inspired my love of words and writing.

“Hopefully, hearing that someone from the school has achieve all I have achieved will encourage the pupils to believe in their own dreams.

The story is called The Astounding Adventure of Mr Bowns, the ‘laziest man in the world’ and tells of one day, when it was so nice, even Mr Bowns decided to go for a walk.

Ade explained: “He is joined by the two children who live next door, and the more they walk, the more they talk until they find themselves lost, deep in the woods. In front of them is a spooky looking cottage, and one by one the children enter the cottage to ask for directions, but fail to return.

“Mr Bowns must rescue them, but in the laziest way possible.”

Ade has been touring local schools and pre-schools with a free author tour to promote the book and invites them to get in touch if they have not yet done so to arrange a free visit.

“I will be adding this letter to my talks and workshops” he said.

“The tour has the message, ‘Don’t be a Lazy Bowns’ and encourages children to get of their tablets and TV and do something more active and creative.”

The book, The Astounding Adventure of Mr Bowns is available from Amazon, from the publisher Wordcatcher or from Ade himself.
