POLICE are appealing for information after a car was stolen and 'deliberately' set on fire in Highbridge.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to Walrow Road in Highbridge at in Walrow Road at 8.21pm on Thursday (November 21) after receiving a call from a member of the public reporting a car on fire.

One fire engine from Burnham-on-Sea went to the scene.

On arrival, the incident commander confirmed that one vehicle was well alight and got crews to work using a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

Police were informed as the cause of the fire was deemed to be suspicious.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "On Wednesday, November 20, we received a report a car had been stolen from the Church Street area of Highbridge.

"The fire service subsequently informed us yesterday it had located the vehicle on Walrow Road and believe it had been deliberately set on fire.

"Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Walrow Road area last night (Thursday, 21 November) is asked to call 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5219269092."
