TODAY is the last day for people to register to vote or apply for a postal vote in the next general election.

Somerset goes to the polls on Thursday, December 12, but not everyone in the town who is able to vote has applied to do so.

Applications to vote in person or by post must be made by 5pm.

For more information - and to register to vote online - log on to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

This applies to new postal vote and postal proxy applications and also for changes to existing postal or postal proxy votes.

The latest date to apply to vote by proxy, where someone else votes on your behalf, is Wednesday, December 4, at 5pm.

For postal votes, you can download an application form from gov.uk and return it to your local authority, for example Somerset West and Taunton Council for Taunton Deane and West Somerset.
