A PUB in a prime location in Taunton town centre could re-open after almost four years - if an operator can be found.

The owners have said they will carry out a major refurbishment of the Apple and Parrot, in Corporation Street, if the right person comes forward.

The improvements to the building would be likely to include smartening up the outside of the premises, which shut suddenly in January 2016.

A spokesman for Star Pubs and Clubs, which is owned by Heineken, said: "Subject to recruiting a new operator, we would like to undertake a major refurbishment to transform The Apple and Parrot into a great quality bar.

"It would serve excellent food and coffee to meet the needs of town centre visitors, residents and workers during the day and, with a premium drinks range including cocktails, would also be the place for a good night out.

"The Apple and Parrot is a beautiful building in a prime location and has lots of potential."

The Apple and Parrot closed in January 2016, when it was claimed the managing company had been sold.

At the time, Wayne S, the general manager, posted on Facebook: "The apple and parrot is currently closed after the managing company was sold.

"The future of the pub is to be determined by new owners.

"I am publishing this after my employment was terminated as a courtesy to all bands, performers and clientele.

"Please consider all bookings, shows, promotional earnings and such forth cancelled and void.

"I have no idea what the future holds for this venue but can simply say it has been a pleasure to have worked and partied with you all."
