A SOMERSET road closed after specialist equipment detected land movement in the cliff face below has reopened.

The B3191, West Street, Cleeve Hill, Watchet, was closed on December 27 amid fears a landslide could pose a danger to anyone using the road.

After the closure, West Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger called for a replacement road to be built and said he feared it could be some time before the road reopened.

But today (January 4), Somerset County Council's Highways team deemed it fit for traffic once more.

A spokesperson said: "Following a detailed survey of the cliff face, and examination of the data information from site, it has been concluded the road is safe to re-open."
