A TEENAGER left devastated after his Christmas present was stolen has been reunited with his prized possession.

The orange and black Carrera mountain bike was taken from a property in Glastonbury Road, Wells, some time between 12.30pm and 3.45pm on December 29 after thieves broke into a garden building.

Now, police have revealed how they have reunited the teen with his new bike.

Enquiries by PCSO Donna President, who is based at Wells Police Station, resulted in the bike being returned anonymously to a street near to where it had been taken, according to an Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson.

"Donna had seen an appeal by the family on social media and through her investigations was able to recover the bike and reunite with the grateful owner," the spokesperson said.

"A scooter which had also been stolen a couple of months ago was also found by the PCSO.

"The bike and scooter have since been security marked."

Mendip neighbourhood policing Inspector, Mark Nicholson, said: “This was an excellent piece of investigative work by Donna, who showed tenacity and determination to find and reunite the stolen bike with its owner – a grateful 13-year-old boy.

"And it was a double whammy because Donna also managed to find the boy’s scooter that had been stolen several weeks earlier.”
