WINDY weather is set to continue across Somerset as gusts of 70mph are expected.

The Met Office has issued the yellow warning for wind across much of the country, including the south west.

The warning is in place from noon today (Tuesday, January 14), until 11.59pm.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Southwesterly winds are expected to strengthen across much of England and Wales during Tuesday afternoon and evening.

"Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected quite widely inland, with exposed coasts and hills having gusts of around 60 mph, perhaps locally 70 mph.

"Heavy rain may be an additional hazard in places. Winds will ease from the west during Tuesday night."

A number of roads have already been closed due to fallen trees as Storm Brendan batter the county overnight.

A previous weather warning was in place until midnight last night, and it looks like the windy weather is set to continue through today.
