AFTERNOON tea at the Ritz, whale watching, seeing the Northern Lights and drinking proper SOMERSET CIDER are among the top wishes on people's 2020 bucket lists, a new study suggests.

One in five of 2,000 adults surveyed by hotel group Travelodge said they have a list of things they want to do before they die, often including travel to popular tourist destinations such as the Scottish Highlands and Snowdonia in North Wales.

The lists also included walking Hadrian's Wall, climbing Ben Nevis and experiencing the summer solstice at Stonehenge.

More unusual wishes were eating fish and chips at Land's End, eating haggis in Scotland, and drinking scrumpy in Somerset.

Shakila Ahmed, of Travelodge, said: "Britons' bucket list is dominated by exploring the glorious countryside, experiencing some of the UK's greatest train journeys, and indulging in our finest food."

More than half of those polled said they planned to make a bucket list this year.
