A LANDMARK Somerset building is on the market - and could be set to become a restaurant, offices, or shops.

The Bath Quakers have appointed property consultants Carter Jonas to oversee the sale of their current premises, the Grade II-Listed Friends Meeting House, in York Street, Bath.

The building comprised almost 3,300 sq ft of space and could be ripe for conversion, having previously being granted consent to be used as a restaurant.

"Built in a neoclassical architectural style in 1818, Friends Meeting House is characterised by its Bath Stone exterior and its two elegant ceiling lightwells," said a Carter Jonas spokesperson.

"Internally, the property has two floors of accommodation, arranged over the ground floor and basement, and comes complete with two kitchens, several meeting rooms, several WC facilities (including mobility-impaired) and shower facilities.

"Accessed via a set of stone steps, there is also mobility-impaired access via a chair lift from the pavement to the ground floor.

The rear of the property has a small paved area."

The building is in a prime location in Bath city centre, close to attractions including the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey, as well as the city’s prime retail centre, leisure landscape, and business hub.

Philip Marshall, partner, commercial at Carter Jonas, said: “Friends Meeting House represents a once in a generation opportunity to acquire a landmark building in the heart of the city, close to Bath Abbey.

"After many happy years based at York Street, Bath Quakers now feel that the property exceeds their needs and are looking to downsize.

"Given the scale of the property, its flexibility, and its potential, it is an utterly unique proposition within Bath’s commercial landscape.

"We anticipate extensive interest and look forward to working with prospective purchasers to help realise the next chapter in this historic building’s story."
