PROGRESS on the redevelopment of a major Taunton site is continuing - with one of the largest concrete pumps in Europe now on site.

Contractor Midas is working with Somerset West and Taunton Council to revamp the Coal Orchard site.

The multi-million pound scheme is set to be a mix of homes, shops and restaurants once completed, in a bid to rejuvenate the riverside area of Taunton.

And now, despite the recent wet weather, Midas has confirmed work is progressing as expected.

"The last month has been difficult with the wet weather, but progress has been maintained," said senior project manager for Midas, Simon King, in an update for residents.

Now, he said, the enormous concrete pumps would be working on foundations at the site, ahead of slabs and steelwork to come.

Once finished, the project is set to feature a total of 42 one and two-bedroom flats, shops, restaurants, offices and a gym.
