THIS is the site of the planned multi-storey car park at Taunton Station.

The area has been fenced off since last summer during work on the area as part of a multi-million pound development of the station.

The taxi rank has been relocated to the north of the premises for safety reasons.

The station car park has been closed and a temporary facility opened near the former allotments on the other side.

But many commuters prefer to use Kilkenny Car Park, which is owned by Somerset West and Taunton Council.

It is now full almost every day - something which rarely happened before.

The extra vehicles using the local authority facility are providing a windfall for the council in extra parking fees.

Great Western Railway is working with Somerset West and Taunton Council and the Heart of South West Local Enterprise Partnership to deliver the scheme, designed to help support the town’s economic development plans.

Planned improvements to the station include the multi-storey car park; a new ticket office and entrance include improved bus and taxi interchange and easier access to the town centre and Firepool development.

The work is scheduled to be completed this year.
