WORKS to tackle an ongoing flooding issue near Taunton Station are starting on Monday.
The road and pavement near the pedestrian crossing on Clifton Terrace has been prone to flooding in recent times.
Somerset County Council investigations identified a collapsed drain deep under the road which requires extensive repairs under a temporary road closure.
This will start on Monday and take five days, with the short north western leg of Clifton Terrace closed for the duration. Traffic will still be able to turn left, towards Taunton, at the end of Clifton Terrace, but will be unable to turn right.
Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “This flooding has been a persistent problem for far too long and makes it very difficult to cross the road.
“We need to get in and carry out substantial repairs and I’m pleased we have been able to plan this during the school holidays to minimise any disruption as much as possible.”
