Fire crews descended on CEX last night after reports of a fire.
The alarm went off at 8pm with fire crews at the scene on Wote Street by 8.23pm after the device reported the incident automatically.
The well-known second hand games shop confirmed that the alarm was caused by smoke cloak activation.
SmokeCloak is a type of burglary alarm which emits a fog when an intruder attempts to enter the property.
The team carried out positive pressure ventilation to reset the device with no risk of a fire.
