ORGANISERS of a popular race are hoping to rearrange the event at a later date.

They have called off the Kingspan Minehead Half Marathon and 10k race due to have taken place on Sunday, May 24.

Race director Chris Spink said: "It is with great regret that we are postponing the Kingspan Half Marathon and 10k race until further notice.

"The health and safety of runners, spectators, stewards and everyone involved in organising the race is paramount to us and, in the light of the recent Government announcements, World Health Organisation advice and the continued uncertainty around the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have taken what we feel is the only prudent decision in the circumstances.

"Runners who have already registered will be contacted directly.

"They will be able to claim a full refund, or have their entry money transferred to the rescheduled race, or, if they wish, they can choose to donate it to our two chosen local charities for 2020 - the Freddie Pring Memorial and the 1st Watchet Sea Scout Group.

"As tempting as it is to try and set a date now, we are aware that the autumn sporting fixture lists are becoming increasingly crowded with spring events that have been postponed.

"In addition, no one can be sure how long it will be before the virus is contained.

"We will, of course, let everyone know in good time when a new date is agreed."
