THE M56 was closed for several hours this morning due to an overturned lorry.
Two lanes on the westbound carriageway were initially closed after the HGV ended up on its side during an accident at around 7.15am between junction 10 at Stretton and junction 11 at Daresbury.
But emergency services then put a full closure of the motorway in this direction at around 8.15am.
A quantity of fuel also spilled on the road, with diversions in place by following the A49 southbound, A533 westbound and A56 northbound.
One lane of the M56 was reopened at around midday, before the carriageway was fully opened at around 1pm.
