A MAN arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a meat cleaver attack in Sankey Bridges has been released by police.
And officers have issued a picture of a man wanted in connection with the incident on Old Liverpool Road.
The ‘horrific assault’ happened at around 11.15am on Saturday, March 21 – with a 35-year-old man from Widnes suffering serious injuries after being hit in the head with the weapon.
He presented himself at Warrington Hospital, but has since been released.
A 42-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has since been released, with no further action set to be taken against him.
Cheshire Police have now released a CCTV image of a man, believed to have a Scottish accent, who detectives are hoping to trace over the attack.
The force’s enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Detective sergeant John Rhodes, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a horrific assault which took place in the middle of the street during a busy time of day.
“The victim received hospital treatment for serious injuries to his head caused by a weapon and has now been released from hospital.
“As part of our ongoing enquiries I am looking to trace the man in the CCTV image who I believe has a Scottish accent.
“If you think you recognise him or know who he is please get in touch with us.
“I would also appeal directly to the man in the image to contact police.”
