A SUSPECT arrested over the attempted murder of a man from Widnes has been released by police.
The 35-year-old victim suffered serious injuries after being hit in the head with a meat cleaver on Old Liverpool Road in Warrington at around 11.14am on Saturday, March 21.
He presented himself for treatment at Warrington Hospital, but has since been released.
A 42-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has since been released, with no further action set to be taken against him.
Cheshire Police have now released a CCTV image of a man, believed to have a Scottish accent, who detectives are hoping to trace over the ‘horrific’ attack.
The force’s enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Detective sergeant John Rhodes, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a horrific assault which took place in the middle of the street during a busy time of day.
“The victim received hospital treatment for serious injuries to his head caused by a weapon and has now been released from hospital.
“As part of our ongoing enquiries I am looking to trace the man in the CCTV image who I believe has a Scottish accent.
“If you think you recognise him or know who he is please get in touch with us.
“I would also appeal directly to the man in the image to contact police.”
