A WELLINGTON care home has been praised after its latest inspection.

Camelot House and Lodge, a specialist care home for up to 90 people with dementia located on Taunton Road in Wellington, has been rated 'good' by inspectors at the Care Quality Commission.

The health watchdog rated the home's safety, management, effectiveness, care and responsiveness, and leadership all as 'good'.

The home is run by the Camelot Care Group which has further specialist dementia care homes in Bridgwater and Plymouth.

Group director, Paul Teasdale, said: “This is a very pleasing outcome for Camelot Care, and the hard-working team at Camelot House and Lodge.

“In particular we really welcome recognition from the inspector that our residents are supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, with staff supporting them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.

“This reflects exactly the culture that we at Camelot Care want to be evident at all our services – for us it’s all about friendly, caring, and attentive support that enables people to live the best possible lives they can through an individualised and person-centred approach.

“The inspectors commented positively on the quality of the premises, our activities programme, good feedback from external allied health practitioners, and also commented on the respectful way residents are treated, including proper protection of their privacy and dignity.

“I congratulate service manager Sam Paddon and her team for the consistently caring way they carry out their jobs.”

The CQC report also highlights the “effective, compassionate care” given to residents of Camelot House and Lodge at end of life. The service was reaccredited with the Gold Standard Framework (GSF) for the third consecutive time in 2019 and has been awarded the quality hallmark award of platinum status.
