FIREFIGHTERS are battling a fire at a landfill site.
Crews were called to the incident at Walpole landfill site, near Bridgwater, at 6.23am today (Wednesday).
A water carrier and other specialist vehicles were sent to the scene.
The fire has been reduced to 50 per cent and "steady progress is being made, according to a Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman.
He added: "The smoke plume is likely visible from the M5 and possibly Bridgwater.
"Nearby residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution."
