A BASINGSTOKE man is set to stand trial for GBH charges later this month.

Adam Christopher Philip is accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding a man with intent to cause grievous bodily harm during an incident in Basingstoke on March 21.

The 29-year-old Brighton Hill Centre resident also faces a separate charge of being in possession of a kitchen knife in the town on the same day.

Magistrates sent the case to Winchester crown court for trial which is due to take place on April 22.

It was also noted that the defendant will appear via live television link.

 

A DRIVER found behind the wheel with around eight times the legal limit of a controlled drug in his system has been disqualified from driving.

Toby Squire, 29, was driving a Land Rover in Popham on October 23, last year, when he was found with 384 micrograms of benzoylecgonine – the main metabolite of cocaine – in his blood. The legal limit is 50.

He was also found to have 43 micrograms of cocaine in his blood where the legal limit is 10.

Squire, who lives in Burrington Coombe, Bristol, pleaded guilty to the charges and was banned from driving for three years.

He was also fined £80 and made to pay a £32 victim surcharge as well as £35 in costs.

 

A CHURCH Crookham man has been made to pay almost £1,000 after magistrates found him guilty of assault.

Samuel Gerrard, of Ridgeway Parade, had originally denied assaulting a man in Guildford on September 19, last year.

However he returned to court where he was eventually found guilty, before a third appearance earlier this month in which he was fined by Basingstoke magistrates. The 33-year-old was fined £173 and made to pay £50 in compensation and a £32 victim surcharge.

He must also pay £725 in costs to the crown prosecution service.

 

A BASINGSTOKE man who admits causing criminal damage but denies assault is set to stand trial in May.

Dragos-Doru Ceausu, of Bennett Close, is accused of damaging the door frame of a Basingstoke woman and, in a separate charge, assaulting the same woman during an incident March 5.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage but pleaded not guilty to the assault.

He is due to stand trial in Aldershot magistrates court on May 22.

In the meantime, he is prohibited from contacting the defendant and may only attend her address if accompanied by a police officer.

 

A MAN is set to stand trial accused of assault and ‘violently’ entering a Sandys Road home.

Danny Freeman allegedly ‘used violence for the purpose of securing entry’ to Yorke House, in Sandys Road, on February 8.

He is also accused of beating a woman on the same day.

The 31-year-old Gainsborough Road resident was remanded on bail until May 27 when he is due to appear at Aldershot magistrates court.

Until then he is forbidden from entering Yorke House and must not contact the victim and two other people.

 

A KINGSCLERE man has pleaded not guilty to beating a woman in Basingstoke.

Brandon Rawlings, of South Road, denied assaulting a woman by beating in the town on January 26.

The 21-year-old was remanded on bail until June 17 when he will stand trial at Aldershot magistrates court.

 

A DRIVER who got behind the wheel with alcohol in his system has been disqualified for 12 months.

Aaron Sidhu, of Miles Road, Basingstoke, was found in a Mitsubishi L200 on the M3, near Junction 4A, on December 21, last year.

He had 51 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined £500 and made to pay a £50 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.
