A RAFT of improvements has been drawn up for Wellington Fire Station.
A planning application has been submitted to the district council for various internal and external alterations and refurbishment of the premises in North Street, out of which some 20 retained firefighters operate.
It includes plans for the creation of a 'muster bay' area for the storage of firefighters' equipment.
A breathing apparatus cleaning facility and additional office space would also be provided in the former Landrover appliance bay, which is no longer required.
The existing ground floor toilet will be reconfigured to create a wet room, while a lockable storage area will be created.
And a new felt covering will be laid over the flat roof section over the Landrover appliance bay to replace the current roofing, which has failed.
Deteriorating wooden windows will be replaced by UPVC double glazed units
