AS the lockdown eases and the shops and cafes are allowed to open, surely now is the time to pedestrianise Taunton town centre?

Outdoor eating and drinking areas could be set up outside with room for everyone to socially distance, market stalls and outdoor canopies to provide more cover when the weather is not as warm.

The extra space would allow for socially-distanced queues to restrict numbers in shops.

Planters could define areas and provide more greenery, in-keeping with the image of Taunton as a garden town.

As more people shop online, developing a town centre that is attractive and feels safe to visit will be challenging and I believe this could be a step in the right direction.
