A TAUNTON primary school is appealing to local businesses to help keep pupils safe when they return following the lockdown restrictions.
St George's Catholic Primary School is planning to open to more children on June 1 in line with Government instructions.
And the school is asking if any firms could donate good quality shades or gazebos that could be used as outdoor classrooms.
Teacher Eleanor Rolf said the World Health Organisation recommends children be taught outside as much as possible to reduce the risk of infection.
She added: "We're lucky at St George’s to have enough outdoor space, but it's very exposed and we couldn't allow the children to be outside for too long in the sun.
"Our hope is to have enough gazebos for the three returning classes (Reception and Classes 1 and 6) and key worker children (around 20) to work outside at a safe distance from one another.
"It would really help to protect the lives of children, their families and teaching staff."
Send donations to the school in The Mount or call 01823 284130.
