VIVARY Golf Course is set to open after being closed for nine weeks during the coronavirus pandemic.

The golf course, based within Vivary Golf and Adventure Centre in Vivary Park, will be welcoming customers back tomorrow (Saturday, May 23).

It closed on Friday, March 20, following government guidance during the Covid-19 crisis.

The Prime Minister announced on Sunday, May 10, that some lockdown measures could be eased, including access to more sports, including golf, fishing, and tennis.

Everyone Active – the sports and leisure operator that manages the facility in partnership with Somerset West and Taunton Council – has implemented strict procedures to ensure social distancing on and around the course, along with removing certain equipment to avoid the touching of surfaces.

Mark Washington, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We’ve been looking forward to reopening the course and welcoming back our loyal members and have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from customers and Somerset West and Taunton Council during these unprecedented times.

“Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the guidance. We cannot stress enough that, whilst the course has now reopened, it is incredibly important that we all remain vigilant and considerate of our fellow players. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and thanking them for their patience.”
