Groups which support the community in Newtown have benefited from grants totalling £10,000.
The Newtown Community Fund grant supports projects or community activity through community, voluntary or self-help groups. The grant traditionally supports groups which carry out work in the community
During these unprecedented times, however, Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council offered groups working in the community that were assisting with the repercussions of coronavirus and its effect on the town, an opportunity to apply for the grant.
The successful applicants received a total of £10,000 for the May Community Grants Awards and are: Maldwyn Nursery and Family Centre, Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre, Newtown Community Cafe, Newtown Sports and Social Club, Ponthafren Association, Powys Animal Welfare, Robert Owen Memorial Museum, RBD Dance Academy and 1st Newtown Scout Group.
Mayor Cllr David Selby said “Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn town Council congratulates the successful applicants. It is hoped that a grant award presentation will be held in early 2021 where applicants will be invited to receive a certificate and meet other organisations within the town.”
