TAUNTON town centre welcomed its highest number of visitors yesterday (Friday) since non-essential shops re-opened on Monday.
There were just shy of 4,000 in the main shopping area between 11am and 2pm.
That followed the 2,000 mark being reached shortly after 9am.
There were still 2,000 people in the centre at 4pm and 1,000 an hours later.
