TAUNTON Deane MP Rebecca Pow and her family were "overwhelmed" by messages from friends who yesterday (Sunday) remembered her late husband on the first anniversary of his death.

An obituary appeared in the MCC official magazine a year to the day after Charles Clark's death aged 59 following his battle with cancer.

Mr Clark had served as chairman of Somerset County Cricket Club.

It said: "He was filled with wisdom as well as intellect."

The obituary added that he was the seventh generation of his family to be involved in agricultural auctions.

It told how he had helped raise more than £2million for charity and was a trustee of Somerset Community Foundation.

And many people contacted Ms Pow to show their support for her.

She said: "Whilst the family miss Charles immeasurably, we were overwhelmed by the supportive comments from so many people remembering Charles yesterday.

"It is a great testament to the man and all whom he touched in so many ways, whether it was helping those in the farming world, raising funds for charity or his work in the cricket sphere.

"In a lovely touch Stoke St Mary Cricket Club will be renaming the village pitch after him. The exact title is yet to be announced."
