THE number of Covid-19 patients at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital has dropped dramatically.

As of yesterday (Tuesday), a source said there were just six people in the hospital who had tested positive.

It is believed that at its peak, there were around 50 patients in Musgrove being treated for coronavirus.

A spokesman for Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Musgrove, said more than 300 Covid-19 patients it had treated had recovered

He said: "We are delighted that as of Tuesday (June 23), more than 300 patients whom we cared for have recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged from our facilities.

"We do our best for our patients and it is fantastic to see them recover and go home.

"We would like to say a big thank you to the people and organisations in Somerset for all their support during the pandemic.

"We also want to thank everyone for their support in following the Public Health England guidance on social distancing and staying at home, which helps to keep our NHS colleagues and patients protected."

A total of 49 patients in the care of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust have died from the virus, according to figures from Public Health England.
