A MIDDLE-aged man was spat at and punched by a complete stranger in an incident in Taunton town centre.
The victim suffered a minor neck injury but did not require hospital treatment following the attack in Fore Street on Tuesday, June 9, at about 2.30pm.
The man, who is in his 50s and whose watch was broken, was next to the entrance to the Orchard Shopping Centre.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "A man, in his 50s, was next to the Orchard Shopping Centre entrance in Fore Street, Taunton, at about 2.30pm on Tuesday 9 June, where he was spat at and punched by a unknown man.
"He suffered a minor neck injury, but did not require hospital treatment. His watch was also broken during the incident."
The spokesman added that enquiries into what happened are continuing and officers have released a picture of a man they wish to talk to about the investigation.
He is described as white, of medium build, about 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall and with a Welsh accent.
He was wearing a dark blue skull T-shirt and a green camouflage-style rucksack.
Anyone who recognises the man or witnessed the incident should call police on 101 and give the call-handler reference 5220125664.
