A CASUALTY was left "pinned" in a vehicle after a crash on the Lizard in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Ponsongath, near Coverack, at 4.21am.

Eight firefighters on two appliances from St Keverne and Mullion were sent to the scene.

They arrived to find that a vehicle had collided with a telegraph pole.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Eight firefighters on two appliances from St Keverne and Mullion attended a call to a single vehicle road traffic collision where one person was described as being 'pinned' in the vehicle.

"Firefighters used crash rescue equipment to cut free one casualty from the vehicle involved.

"Two further casualties were monitored by fire crews until the arrival of ambulance staff.

"The road traffic collision had also involved a telegraph pole, electrical engineers were requested to attend the scene to assess the damage to the pole."

No further details on the extent of the injuries to those involved have yet been given.

A spokesperson for Falmouth and Helston Police said: "We attended a single car RTC this morning near Helston.

"Three injured occupants, one being the driver who was four times the legal limit of alcohol.

"Yet another driver arrested for driving whilst over the prescribed limit of alcohol."
