THE CHILDREN’S suite at Dorset County Hospital has received a donation of £600 from the Dorchester Corkers.

Gully’s Place supports children and young people with life-limiting conditions from the point of diagnosis, to care in the hospital, at home and within the community.

The funds, raised through a themed wine tasting evening that took place last year at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester, will be used for the upkeep of the unit based at Dorset County Hospital, a companion unit to the one based at Poole Hospital.

Mair Cole and Julia Stewart, both Gully’s Buddies, and members of Ellipse, the lady’s community group behind the Dorchester Corkers, were present at the event.

“Gully’s Place has been a favourite charity of ours for many years,” said Mair.

She added: “Representatives of Gully’s Place from the Kingfisher Ward at Dorset County Hospital gave us a helping hand us with the running of the event, which was very much appreciated.”

‘Buddies’ are volunteer fundraisers, dedicated to raising awareness and funds to support the unit’s services and suites at Poole Hospital and Dorset County Hospital.

Each year the wine tasting evening at the Corn Exchange takes on a different theme with latest event being based on ‘legends and divas.’ Attendees came in fancy dress and tasted six wines.

Sarah Lemon, Gully’s Place administrator, said: “This is a wonderful donation that will truly help with the upkeep of the unit. We are really thankful to the Dorchester Corkers for supporting the unit.”
