A PCSO is urging people to drink responsibly after officers stopped a driver who was almost twice the drink drive limit.

PCSO Steve Hill, who is part of Wellington Police Team, said officers stopped the driver in Wellington town centre on Friday (July 17).

In a post on social media yesterday (July 18) PCSO Hill said: "Our Wellington Police Team stopped a vehicle in the town centre last night and the driver was found to be almost twice over the drink drive limit.

"Please remember to drink responsibly now the pubs are open again.

"If you are caught drink or drug driving, you will be disqualified.

"You will also receive a minimum 12-month driving ban, a criminal record, and a fine of up to £5,000.

"Driving under the influence of drink or drugs is not only a crime, it is socially and morally unacceptable and can have devastating consequences.

"Don’t gamble with your ability to drive, it’s not worth the risk.

"You can report anyone who is suspected of drink or drug driving.

"If you know about someone who is currently driving under the influence call 999 or in less urgent cases then call 101 or report online at www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/Report.

"Alternatively, you can make an anonymous report through Crimestoppers."
