A RESTAURANT manager who has been unable to take up his position due to lockdown finally gets to start his new role at the beginning of next month.

Chris Francis was appointed to head up staff at Toby Carvery in Taunton days before the Government ordered the closure of restaurants and pubs due to the Covid-19 crisis.

He his now preparing to re-open the Ilminster Road eatery on Monday, August 3.

"I can't wait for us to open," said Chris.

"I was training at the Whitbread head office in Birmingham when the Toby Carvery premises was closed.

Somerset County Gazette:

"It's been very frustrating, but we've been getting everything ready to ensure we can keep the team and guests secure and safe.

"There's sanitiser throughout the building and at the entry and exit and by the carvery."

The eat-all-you-want carvery will still be available, with guests still able to go up to the counter to order.

But meals and repeat helpings, as well as soft drink refills will be delivered to tables by staff.

Chris added: "There's going to be a reduced capacity and it's best to book.

"But if you turn up, we'll do our best to get a table for you.

"People can also call and collect a takeaway."
