AN independent school in Taunton has unveiled plans to create "the best sixth form centre in the South West".

Students and staff at King's College have given their input into the proposed two-storey building on the South Road campus.

It would replace two single-storey premises currently used as a drama studio, which would be demolished if Somerset West and Taunton Council approves the plans.

The original application was withdrawn due to the need to carry out a bat survey.

A document accompanying the application say the development aims "to make King's College an even more attractive option for their 16+ pupils".

It aids that it hopes "to create the best sixth form centre in the South West region designed in collaboration with the pupils for the pupils".

The plan is to increase the number of students in the A level groups.

The ground floor of the proposed building would features an entrance lobby, cafe bar, informal learning spaces; office space and WCs and shower.

The first floor would contain more classrooms, a staff room, office space, library and storage.
