DEVELOPERS Strongvox Homes want to build 38 homes on land north of Wedmore First School.

This new application follows hot on the heels of an application for 34 homes at Combe Batch submitted recently.

The Strongvox application relates to land off Blackford Road, with the developer proposing 38 new homes, landscaping, parking and public open space.

Access to the 2.81ha site will formed as a continuation of the existing road within the adjoining development.

The site is outside the village's 'settlement boundary' but Strongvox the development can comply with the Wedmore Design Scheme, put together by local residents and the parish council.

Strongvox says it was unable to hold a public consultation event in Wedmore due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the company did set up a consultation website where members of the community could make comments about the proposals.

Representations by near neighbours who reside in properties along the Eastern boundary had been received saying they were concerned over the proximity of development.

In response Stronvox met with focus teams and the parish council, and amended the plans, reducing the number of houses by two.

The development will be made up of two bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes.

Approximately 15 of the homes will be designated affordable housing.
