A NEW Indian restaurant is opening in Taunton tomorrow (Thursday) offering diners TWO main meals for the price of ONE.

Mattancherry is being operated in Station Road by the team behind the former Mint and Mustard.

One of the owners, Dr Adjit Kandoran, a vascular surgeon at Musgrove Park Hospital, has kept most of the Mint and Mustard team following a reorganisation of the business.

And he has installed Ricardo Freitas, previously the restaurant manager at the former Albatross restaurant beside the River Tone, to oversee the day to day running of Mattancherry.

A spokesman for Mattancherry said: "Dr Kandoran has always had a particular love of food and dishes from the Keralan region of southern India.

"The building is lovely and has a lot of atmosphere.

"Mattancherry will be run along the same lines as Mint and Mustard, concentrating on fine dining.

"The owners were keen to open up in Taunton as they live here, but there will be branches opening up elsewhere."

As a new venture, Mattancherry does not qualify to take part in the 'Eat Out to Help Out' initiative from Mondays to Wednesdays throughout August. Instead diners will be able to order two mains for the price of one SEVEN days a week until the end of the month.

The restaurant is opening its doors at 12noon tomorrow (Thursday).

It will open for lunch between 12noon and 2pm every day. Dinner will be served from 5.30pm until 10pm Sundays to Thursdays and 5pm to 10.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
