A TAUNTON secondary school where a pupil tested positive for Covid-19 will welcome back four year groups today (Monday).

The premises have been deep cleaned over the weekend.

All Year 7 pupils have been told to stay home and to self isolate until September 23 after one of them caught the virus.

It is unknown where the child was infected.

But parents and carers of Years 8 to 11 pupils have been told it is safe for their children to attend school.

Acting head teacher Nic Blunsum wrote to all parents and carers explaining the situation after the pupils was diagnosed.

He explained that the whole of Year 7 had been identified as being "in close contact with the affected child".

An updated message on Facebook at the weekend said: "A deep cleaning process is taking place as per the advice given by Public Health England.

"This will be completed this weekend before students in Years 8-11 return on Monday.

"Thank you for your ongoing support.

"We will communicate the remote home learning process with parents/guardians on Monday."

Meanwhile, Year 6 pupils at Parkfield Primary School in the county town have also been ordered to stay home and self isolate after one of them tested positive for Covid-19.
