A FORMER water filtration works on the old Royal Ordnance Factory site between Puriton and Woolavington is set to become a farmstead community of six homes.
Under plans for the Gravity clean growth campus, the disused Knowle Hill site will be transformed into a small, low carbon community.
Gravity will be a 635 acre smart campus with industry focusing on clean growth from artificial intelligence to electric cars.
For 12 years, the site at Knowle Hill has been redundant. Originally developed as a water filtration works during the Second World War to service the Royal Ordnance Factory, the works were finally closed in 2008.
A spokesman for This is Gravity Ltd said: “With the ROF now closed and in remediation, we are now working up plans to reimagine Knowle Hill as a small, low carbon community which makes the most of its unique and green surroundings to improve the appearance of the site and make a positive contribution to the locality.”
The plans are being put together with designers Origin3 and planning consultants Stantec.
The This is Gravity spokesman added: “After refining our plans, we will submit a planning application to Sedgemoor District Council this autumn.
“If our plans are approved, work to prepare the Knowle Hill site could begin from mid-2021.”
“These plans for Knowle Hill in Bawdrip parish are a small part of our overall ambition to regenerate ROF37 as a smart campus for sustainable businesses, creating new employment opportunities into the future.”
It is hoped the Gravity campus will create up to 4,000 jobs and attract world-leading firms to Bridgwater.
