A SUPERMARKET giant has plans to build a store in Wellington.

Lidl has submitted a planning application for a new development located near Taunton Road and Nynehead Road in Wellington.

The store is likely to provide up to 40 job opportunities, according to the application.

It will be accessible via a junction on Nynehead Road.

There are 126 new car parking spaces planned for the store, which will take up less than 10 per cent of the almost five-acre site.

But some residents are not happy about the proposals.

One resident said: “I object to the plan to build the Lidl store opposite this residential site on the basis of heavy lorry noise, dust, grime, reversing sirens at all hours, eyesore, devaluing property in the immediate vicinity and the fact that this has only just been notified to residents.”

Lidl, founded in Germany in the 1930s, opened in 1994 and now operates over 800 stores nationwide.

The planning application is likely to go before Somerset West and Taunton Council to be approved.
