A LANDMARK Taunton hotel has been put up for sale.

The Royal Ashton Hotel, in Station Road, has been marketed by Christie & Co, with a guide price of £850,000 for the freehold.

The sale comes after major refurbishment of the premises in recent years by owners Dominic Stead and Antony Smith, who took it over in 2016.

The four-storey building has undergone improvements including external rendering, reconfiguration of certain rooms to provide more family accommodation, WIFI access throughout the hotel, updating of the lobby, communal areas and en-suite bathrooms and ongoing updates to the bedrooms.

Antony said: “We have worked hard to establish ourselves as a clean, comfortable and friendly destination for guests with an exceptionally professional team on the ground, which is validated by our 8.5 rating on Booking.com.

"We look forward to passing the reins onto a new owner who will carry the hotel forward.”

The property comprises 34 en-suite bedrooms of various sizes.

On the ground-floor is a two-bedroom apartment which the current owners choose to let out as a self-catering unit and situated on the third floor is an unused one-bedroom apartment which could be converted into an owner's or manager's flat.

The hotel does not provide a breakfast service and trades on a room-only basis, however there are communal kitchen facilities on the first and second floors and a number of bedrooms contain kitchenette facilities.

Stephen Champion, director at Christie & Co is handling the sale.

He said: “The Royal Ashton Hotel is ideally situated to serve visitors to Taunton and the surrounding areas.

"We expect this exciting business opportunity to generate considerable interest from a wide variety of buyers."
