AROUND 90 TONNES of hay was destroyed by fire in a Somerset barn.

The incident unfolded at just after 9.40am yesterday (September 27) morning at Luxborough.

Three fire crews from Minehead and Taunton, along with a water carrier from Bridgwater, were sent to the scene after a call from a member of the public.

"On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed that the fire involved approximately 90 tonnes of hay that had been fully involved in the fire, and got crews to work to tackle the fire using hose reel jets," said a Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.

At just after 2pm, crews from Wellington and Tiverton took over to continue turning over the hay and damping down the scene.
