A LANDMARK Somerset pub is closing due to the coronavirus - until MARCH NEXT YEAR.

The historic Blue Ball Inn, at Triscombe, has been welcoming weary travellers and locals in need of refreshment since 1608, but the pub is set to close today (September 28), due to the coronavirus crisis.

In a statement posted on social media, Lynda Cook from the inn said the decision had been taken with 'deep regret'.

"In view of the current climate, in regards to coronavirus, The Blue Ball Inn will be unable to provide the cosy and welcoming service you (have) all come to expect and love," she wrote.

"As of Monday (September 18), I will be closing the doors.

"I have every confidence that we will be able to resume serving you in early March next year.

"To do this is heartbreaking, but it’s for the best and I remain optimistic about the future of the The Blue Ball and I want to wish you all to stay safe and well.

"A big thank you to all the staff and customers for supporting us through these strange times."

The Blue Ball, which sits in the heart of the Quantock hills, underwent major refurbishment last year and is a popular eating place for many, including walkers.
