SOME staff at a Somerset school will have to self isolate for 14 days after a case of Covid-19 was confirmed at the school.

In a letter to parents on Wednesday (September 30) Nathan Jenkins, principal of The King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge, said the case is isolated and the school has confirmed through a track and trace process that no contact was made with any students.

The principal said the school remains open to all students and any staff who were in close contact with the person who tested positive have been informed that they will have to self isolate for 14 days.

The letter said: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school

"The case is very isolated and having conducted a thorough internal track and trace process we can confirm that no contact was made with any students.

"Any staff who were in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have already been informed and they will isolate for 14 days as per the advice.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal. Thank you for your continued support in these unprecedented times."
