A FOOD production company in Somerset had EIGHT confirmed cases of coronavirus over the last few weeks.

Staff at Charlie Bigham’s in Dulcote, Wells, tested positive for the virus, but there have been no new cases in the past seven days.

The company has members of staff self-isolating but the building remains open.

They said they are following all the "correct procedures" and four of the eight team members have now recovered from the virus.

"We can confirm that over the last few weeks we have had a total of eight confirmed COVID-19 cases within our team at Quarry Kitchen, Dulcote, but have had no new cases in the last seven days,” said a spokesperson for Charlie Bigham’s.

“These team members were quick to recognise the symptoms and got tested as soon as possible, while also alerting close contacts and household members of the need to self-isolate, as a precautionary measure.

“As a result of the above, five people are currently following this guidance, but have not tested positive. Four of the eight team members have now fully recovered and returned to work, and the other four are expected back at work next week.

“The health and wellbeing of everyone at Bigham's is our main priority, so we are doing everything we can to support those affected, including full pay for the 14-day self-isolation period.

“We are also liaising closely with our local PHE health protection team and Somerset County Council, who have confirmed we are following all correct procedures to keep our team and community safe.

“All colleagues have been encouraged to download the NHS COVID-19 app and follow its Hands, Face and Space guidance.”
