A NEW businesses has become the best performing franchise in the UK – despite the challenges of the coronavirus crisis.
Gareth Turnbull, from Street, established Rugbytots Somerset in October 2019 and now has more than 300 children taking part.
The business did not receive any government funding (as Mr Turnbull was self-employed for less than a year) – but he was determined to succeed.
And so Rugbytots Somerset ran free classes, live streamed bedtime stories and birthday shout-outs during the lockdown and relaunched Rugbytots outdoor programme on July 4.
“Rugbytots Somerset has been successful because we care so deeply about our opportunity to work with children of all abilities and backgrounds,” said Mr Turnbull.
“We owe it to all of these amazing children to make a lasting impression and give them the very best possible experience.
“On top of the physical health benefits, the most obvious outcome of Rugbytots is a boost in self-esteem, making the children proud of their own abilities and successes, spurred on by their teammates.
“I’m confident that if our coaches are the best they can be, and our classes are professionally run, then the children will be happy, and we will succeed.”
Rugbytots Somerset currently runs classes in Frome, Sidcot, Wells, Glastonbury, Bridgwater, Yeovil and Gillingham each weekend.
The Mayor of Frome, Councillor Anita Collier, has visited the Frome team and Sir Gareth Edwards backs the franchise.
Sir Edwards said: “Learning the basics and coordination as well as playing as a team are vitally important at that young age. I wish Gareth every success with Rugbytots Somerset.”
Rugbytots is a toddler play programme for children aged two to seven-years-old and the most recent class has just opened in Bridgwater.
