I WAS impressed and enchanted by the extensive digital exhibition of photographs of old Taunton and surrounding villages held at the Creative Innovation Centre (CIC).
Many more scenes and more informative than I have encountered in other local history books.
I was struck by the aerial views showing allotments and market gardens in many parts of the town centre, such as behind St Mary's Church (now Cannon Street car park).

Many of these green and productive areas were turned over to car parks, current aerial views revealing tarmac deserts, like missing teeth.
As a garden town, let us bring all our creativity and civic will together to return these tarmac deserts in our town centre to green and productive spaces, while at the same time making the streets and shops welcoming and accessible for frail and disabled residents and visitors.
