A SOMERSET student is set to swim amongst the best swimmers in the country.

Tamryn van Selm, 17, from Millfield School in Street, has been selected for the British Swimming World Class Programme.

She will be taking part in the Great Britain Podium Potential programme which provides opportunities through access to training camps, competitions, funding, sports science and medical services.

“Coming to Millfield I know that I will be challenged and that I will have more opportunities to develop as an athlete, with the amazing facilities that Millfield has to offer as well as the support from my coaches and teammates,” said Miss van Selm.

“I think it is important to be able to be pushed in training but to also be in an atmosphere that makes the tough sessions fun and enjoyable.

“I am so excited to train in an environment that replicates that at Millfield for the next couple of years.”

Miss van Selm will train and benefit from the programme alongside OM Brodie Williams, who will join her on the Podium Potential programme, and OMs James Guy and Cameron Kurle who have been selected for the Podium Programme.

The students ambition is to continue representing Great Britain at junior and senior level in competitions such as the World Championships and Commonwealth Games with the ultimate goal of competing in the Olympics.

Fifty three athletes have been selected for the British Swimming World Class programme for the 2020-21 season including Adam Peaty, MBE who has represented Great Britain at the Olympic Games.
