Network Rail closed the Tonedale Bridge in Wellington, between Station Road and Milverton Road, until October 9 for essential repairs.

But now, due to the “heavy down pours”, the bridge will remain closed for another ten days.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “Due to the heavy down pours over the country in recent days, we have been unable to clean, paint, waterproof and reinstate the bridge and resurface the road.
“This is because the bridge must be completely dry for 24 hours for the paint and waterproofing to set.
“Because we haven’t been able to complete this, the road will remain closed until October 19, although we will continue to work hard to complete the task as soon as we can.
“We are sorry, as this isn’t ideal for people who live and work locally, but once this work is complete, the bridge will only require visual examinations and general maintenance for the next 25 years.”
Anyone with any questions or concerns is encouraged to ring Network Rail’s national helpline on 03457 11 41 41.
